Can meet the needs of clients with held-away assets such as 401ks, real estate, or illiquid assets
Planning is the focus, not investments
Tend to be challenged by the consistent need to find new clients and/or get past clients to come back
Can get referrals from AUM advisors and advisors who do not accept clients with no investable assets. Marketing to peers is often a very viable strategy for Advice-Only planners.
Greater opportunity for specialization or niche focused marketing campaigns directed at less desired populations, because there is not an AUM minimum
Tend to be smaller and streamlined than other RIA firms, which can allow for more flexibility

Can leverage personalities of individual advisors more, less reliance on the corporate brand

Need to have lower client acquisition costs because the lifetime value of each client is generally lower
More likely to Do-It-Yourself than outsource of hire an inhouse, dedicated marketing person
Able to articulate fees more clearly, which can directly improve the strength of value proposition
More likely to incorporate transparency into other area of business model which can quicken the pace of trust building
